Part One
The sun was high and hot. Southern California hot. Xander took off his hard hat and squinted up. Yup, looked like about noon. Almost time for lunch. Almost time. But it wasn't the peanut butter and tomato sandwich in his lunch box he was thinking about.
"Almost time, ain't it Xan?"
"Shut up Larry" Xander answered, but the way he was grinning and the tone of his voice made it evident that no one thought he was angry, especially Larry.
Xander knew he had to hurry if he was going to make it in time. He grabbed his lunch, splashed some cool water on his face, and hustled to the front of the construction site.
One of the many sites presently being worked. Seemed like the entire town of Sunnydale was an act of God waiting to happen. Fires, explosions, gas leaks, lightning strikes, all of which worked together to make construction work extremely regular and lucrative.
This time it had been a mini earthquake and had resulted in the rebuilding of almost an entire city block. Who even knew there was such a thing as a mini earthquake, but that's what the government called them, and the government wouldn't lie, would they?
Anyway it provided lots of good paying employment for most of his graduating class. Especially guys with certain skills like him and Larry. Larry because of muscles from football and chasing queers, and Xander who had built up his stamina and strength from running from guys like Larry.
That was a long time ago, though and now they were friends. More than friends really, since Larry had drunkenly admitted one night he thought he might also be gay. Xander, in an act of compassion and maybe tinged a bit with revenge, helped him out by fucking him silly and setting his life on it's designated path. So now Larry is grateful, Xander is forgiving, and they are happily good buds with sometimes benefits.
Xander had no more than sat down when Larry leaned down from his scaffold and called out "There she blows!"
Peering down the street, Xander could just make out the shape of a slim figure walking his way. Lunch forgotten,
Xander sat back, smiled and watched. Closer it came. He could now see the soft curly blond hair. Closer, and now he could see the tan dockers and short sleeved baby blue shirt. He could see the worn backpack he always had slung over one shoulder. He watched the light steady pace the figure always walked.
Xander's smile and his nerves grew with each step of the figure's brown sandals. Today was the day. It was a decision finally made and not to be reneged on. Each day for the past two weeks Xander had watched this gorgeous man walk past the site. Each day he would look up briefly at Xander and smile. Xander could swear that the young man's pace slowed as he walked by. Xander took this as a good sign. Yep, today was the day.
And right on time the young man reached the area of the site where Xander sat to eat his lunch. Just as blue eyes met brown and the hint of smile started, Xander hopped down off his seat and fell in step with the very surprised - now faltering - smile. "Hi. How's it going?" Xander asked, trying to sound casual.
"Uh, well...."
"Yeah, sure is hot today," Xander and his crush kept walking, but decidedly slower. "So you heading to work or" pointing to the backpack "school maybe?"
"Uh, Well..."
"Noticed you walk by this way everyday and I just thought I'd say "Hey"
Uh, well.."
"Xander"
"Excuse me?" The baby blue eyes blinked and clearly showed their confusion.
"Xander, that's me"
"XANDER!" Lindsey bellowed, the site foreman who had just noticed the interaction that had captured everyone's interest.
"Eat your fuckin' lunch or get back to work!"
Xander flinched, but his smile never faded. "Well, guess I'll see you tomorrow" Still carrying his hard hat in his hand, Xander turned, placed it back on his head and started walking back to his bench to ponder if maybe he had read all the signals wrong. You would think a gay's gaydar would be infallible.
"Will" The soft voice just caught his ears.
"What?" Xander asked as he turned back. So lost in his thoughts he was really not sure he had heard. Maybe his hearing was taking the same shit his gay detector had taken.
"My name. It's William. Will"
The voice. The eyes. The accent. They all rolled together to cause the breath in Xander's lungs freeze up. Finally the biggest smile broke out on his face. Xander removed his hard hat dipping low at the waist in his best attempt at a gentleman's bow. " Pleased to meet you William. Looking forward to knowing you better"
"XANDER!!" Lindsey screamed. "Get your ass back over here!"
Xander turned and ran back to the site. Even Lindsey couldn't ruin today for him.
Will stood still for a minute then hurried on his way wondering what possessed him to do a stupid thing like that.
Meeting someone could only be trouble. Maybe he would start walking another way and avoid the construction site from now on. But deep in his heart he knew that would not happen.
William hustled on, his head swimming. Why had he spoken to that man? Sure he was attractive, but Will knew any kind of relationship, friends or more, was simply out of the question. He had very carefully crafted his life and there was no room in it for anyone. He lived alone, he worked alone, and he would surely one day die alone. Nothing else was possible. So why then did he walk two blocks out of his way each day just for a peek at the wonderful, darkly handsome construction worker, "Xander". He knew why. Because even a loner needed good fantasy material for long nights in a cold bed. Xander was every fantasy he ever had. Big, strong, happy, and confident. The kind of man who could wrap his arms around Will and keep him safe. The kind of man he could love who would love him back even knowing what he had done.
But that's all it was. Just a fantasy. Still, thinking about the interaction with Xander today caused a thrill that ran down his spine and straight to his balls and told him his bed would be a welcome way to end this long day. Hurrying on he picked up his pace. He didn't want to be late for work. Not that anyone would notice or probably care. Clearing his mind, Will hitched the worn backpack up over his shoulder and walked on. The frayed strap on the backpack looked like it wouldn't last much longer.
'Maybe it was time to get a new one,' he thought, but immediately checked himself. "NO, I will not touch the money" And knowing he could not afford it on what he earned he would just have to make do. Remembering what his Grandmum used to say "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without."
As a child he used to laugh at things like that. Now he just lived by it. Thinking of Grandmum always made him smile. It also made doing without a little easier. So on he walked.
Sunnydale University Library. The building was big - imposing, and just the type of place someone could get lost in. Especially when they descended into the lower levels. The archives and records room was an area seldom seen by the general student body. He had once heard a student say it was in the bowels of the building and only held shit. Everyone with him thought that was hilarious. Will thought it was accurate.
There is nothing of interest there 'including me' thought Will with a sad smile. It also seemed a tad ironic since his own archive needed to be well hidden. But this afternoon was different. Today Will arrived at work with a lighter step and a smile on his lips. A smile he couldn't talk himself out of no matter how hard he tried.
Xander, too, was smiling. He had a name - Will - and hoped that in the next few days he would work that short conversation up into a promise of a date. Lindsay stood off in the distance and watched Xander. He knew what was on the other man's mind, and he was not having it! "Break Over!" he shouted. "Get your minds off your dicks and back on the job!"
Everyone knew who he was talking about and they knew why. Lindsey was jealous as hell. He had pursued Xander for months, and for a few short weeks during the last summer, had gotten what he wanted.
But, it had never really been what Xander had wanted. Lindsey was clingy, whinny, demanding, and frankly, not very good in bed. Of course operating on the theory that any sex was good sex, Xander stuck with him for a time. He was always honest though, and told Lindsey from the beginning that there was nothing there. Just fuck buddies. Nothing more.
Finally even that wasn't enough. and the plug was pulled. Since that time Xander had moved on. Lindsey had not.
Now he was mad! Lindsey stood back watching as Xander started back towards his work area. 'My, my,' he thought. 'Such a dangerous area to work in. If you weren't careful anything could happen'.
"Xander! Get over there and start hauling those bags of cement to the rear area of the foundation" Lindsey sat directly above the supply lot where the bags lay and watched him load the bags into the wheelbarrow. Two trips down and about two more to go he figured from the number of bags left. Watching Xander flex and move was mesmerizing. His tan body moved like rippling water. The sweat on his skin sparkled in the sunlight, and Lindsey remembered what that sweat tasted like when it was licked off Xander's stomach. Jesus, how he still wanted Xander!
And that's what did it. The thought of that mousey, whimpy looking little blond licking any part of Xander's body was more than he could take.
Lindsey jumped up. Whether it was an accident, as he claimed later, or if he knocked the heavy bucket off the scaffold intentionally, it happened in an instant. Someone yelled, Xander looked up and tried to jump out of the way. But before he could get to the side, the bucket came down and struck him on the back of the shoulder. If he hadn't moved, though, it would have landed directly on his head. Knowing that, Xander, and secretly Lindsey, both breathed a sigh of relief.
Luckily 911 was on speed dial and in a small town the size of Sunnydale, it didn't take paramedics long to arrive on the scene. They were quick, efficient and very well equipped, and in looking around the inside of the ambulance, Xander was surprised to see they seemed to be prepared to handle any type of freak accident that should occur. Seems that freak accidents happened a lot in Sunnydale.
Part Two
Xander was strapped, wrapped, and on his way to the hospital within minutes. The rest of the crew were stunned. All eyes, angry and suspicious, turned to Lindsey. There were few secrets on this crew and everyone had seen the introduction play out this morning between Will and Xander.
They had also watched Xander and Will look for each other every day as Will passed by. Most had been present during the time Lindsey had shamelessly persued Xander. They knew about the fling and had hoped things would fade out quietly when it ended. But they hadn't, and now this.
Lindsey stomped and fumed around the site. 'Goddamn people always tryin' to set me up for trouble,'
he thought, trying his best to set aside the idea that maybe this time he had gone too far. Nervously rubbing the back of his neck, unconsiously feeling for the rope he had just used to hang himself with, he took the stand he always took in times of fuck-up. Anger and accusation.
Defiantly facing the crew that had stopped all work, he put his hands on his hips and asked, "What the fuck are you looking at? Now I suppose the goddamn union is gonna want a safety inspection and report. Well fuck! You all might as well call it a day and go home." Lindsey waved them off dismissively.
"Don't think this is over, Lindsey We all know what you did." Larry glared at him.
"DON'T YOU FUCKING THREATEN ME YOU SHITHEAD! You want to keep your job I suggest you remember who the boss is around here."
"Oh I remember, Lindsey" Larry replied calmly " I remember everything"
Larry turned, dropped his toolbelt and walked off the site. He was followed closley by all the other workers who were fed up with Lindsley and his bullshit. Everyone on site knew the only reason he was the boss was because his uncle owned the contract company that had bid the job. The investigation promised to be both interesting and informative.
~*~*~*~*~
"Son of a bitch!" Wasn't this a hospital? Where were all the good drugs they were supposed to have to make the pain go away? Yeah, he knew the doctor wanted x-rays first, but FUCK! This hurts like hell!
"Well Mr. Harris. Looks like you cracked your collar bone. Painful, but no permanent damage." The doctor, all 300 lbs. of him, stood there with the x-ray in his hand, a big smile on his face, and a very poor hair transplant on his head. Why the hell he was in such a fucking good mood Xander could not fathom.
"Drugs!"
"You're on drugs?" the smile faltered, and changed into something resembling confusion.
"No" Xander gritted his teeth and tried to sound calm. "You are supposed to give me drugs. Aren't you? Either that or just shoot me now, but somehow put me out of my misery."
Now the smile was back full force accompanied by a snorting attempt at a giggle. "Oh of course. We will give you a shot and a perscription, but I hope you have someone who can drive you home".
Just as he was beginning to think the worst was over, in came a gorilla of an orderly to bind, wrap and immobolize his arm. Apparently pain was still on the menu. At last he was bent over and stuck in the ass. Considering he generally topped and the fact that the mood was really not right, Xander was gratefull the stick was a shot of demerol.
Damn, as much as he didn't want to do it he knew who he had to call. First because she would be hurt if he didn't and secondly because he thought all the guys were still working at the site. There was no one else. Fishing through his belongings on the floor, Xander located his cell and speed dialed the number.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Willow its me. Hey can you do your big brother a favor?"
"Sure Sweety, whats up?"
"Well there was a little accident...
"Oh My God Xander. Are you O.K.?"
"Yeah, not too bad. I'm at Sunnydale General. Can you come and get me?"
"Ten minutes tops. Love you Xan."
"Love you too Willow, and thanks"
By now the shot was starting to kick in and Xander could feel himself floating on a cloud of pain free happiness.
"Oh Yeah! Now that's the stuff."
True to her word, nine and a half minutes later Willow burst through the doors of the emergency ward. After much signing, receiving instructions, and fussing, they were finally on their way. He knew if anyone could get him out of there quickly it was Willow. She was total organization and efficiency bundled up in a compact package, and nobody could toss an order like his Wil. He knew this because from the time they were both little it was usually him that was jumping to those orders.
Luckly it was a short drive to Xander's apartment as he was fading fast, and at 5'3" and 100 lbs, Willow knew she couldn't support his bigger body all by herself. "Come on Xan. Stick with me." Willow watched him out of the corner of her eye as she pulled up into the parking lot at the front of his building.
"O.K. Willy," he giggled
Willow could see that time and Xander were both running out. She jumped out, grabbed him by the arm and began dragging him out of the passenger's side.
"Whoa! Damn Willow. Hurt guy here." Luckly though, the little flash of pain had brought him around enough to get him on his feet and out of the car. The walk into the apartment seemed like the long last mile of a condemned man, and each step got slower and harder to take. He then made it as far as the bed and was finished. Willow pulled off his boots and jeans. The hospital had made short work of his shirt and the boxers were fine right where they were.
Even though he would be out for hours, Willow decided to wait till morning to run to the drug store for the perscription and then go home to pack a bag. She would stay with him as long as he needed. After the car accident that had claimed their parents, they had gone from close to devoted to each other.
All that day Willow had lounged around Xander's apartment. He slept most of the afternoon, waking only to use the bathroom and return to bed. The pain shot had done it's job. Finally as the evening wore on she made a bed on the couch and set a small alarm for morning.
Being a naturally early riser, she had gotten up and out before seven, and was hoping to be no more than an hour or two. Now Willow was quickly becoming frantic. She had left Xander sleeping in bed an hour ago and was still on an errand that should have taken no more than thirty minutes. She would have sworn the whole day was a giant conspiracy worthy of J.F.K.
It all started with her landlady Mrs. Scott jumping out of the grassy knoll. Er.. rather her apartment "Willow, Sweety, I haven't seen you in the longest"
"Oh, Hi Mrs Scott. No, I've been kinda - you know" Willow fussed with her skirt, her sleeve, her hair slowly all the while backing away. She knew the real danger was looking the sweet older lady in the eye. "I've been on the shopping channel again" Mrs. Scott bubbled before flinging two chubby hands directly under Willows nose.
Without thinking Willow looked up, and -BAM- there it was. Those lonely eyes. Eyes that had seen so much life and now just looked tired. Just looked to someone for a little time and conversation. Willow sighed. 'O.K' she thought. Just a minute or two. "Oh Mrs. Scott. They're beautiful." Willow gushed over the rings snugly attached to each stubby little sausage like finger.
"Oh I know I shouldn't waste my money so, but Henry does love them."
Henry the poodle loves her rings? Oh what the hell. Someday I'll be old and need someone to fuss over me. Even if it is the dog. Please, Lord, just don't make it a dozen cats. "Well you must keep Henry happy." Willow smiled and relaxed a bit. "Now I really do have to go. My brother isn't feeling well and I'm going to stay with him for a few days"
"Oh dear, I do hope everything is all right" Mrs. Scott stepped forward and softly petted Willow's hair. "I always did like your brother. We need to find him a nice girl."
"You're right, Mrs. Scott, that's exactly what we need to do. Gotta go. Bye." Willow turned and ran on to her apartment, laughing at the thought. Of all the things that would make Xander feel better right now, a girl wasn't one of them.
Finally packed up and back into her car, the drug store was next on her list. She knew when he woke the pain pills would be the first thing he would need. All right. Not a lot of traffic. Good parking space. No line at the pharmacy desk. Willow started to hand the prescription to the technician when - "Do You Mind!?" Willow looked around and down. There next to her stood a very irate, very short -midget. 'Oh God' Willow thought 'Is midget the PC term to even be thinking? Should it be "Little pissed off person"?'
"Get out of my way! I was here first. Just push past me and take advantage of the fact that you're a gigantic bully."
"Oh dear God No." Willow sputtered. "I'm so sorry" she tried not to tear up at her shame. How could she have been so thoughtless and cruel? "Please go ahead. Is there anything else I can do for you?" She fretted and fussed.
"No thanks. You have done enough." With that the midget had to turn his angry face away so Willow wouldn't see him smile. Yeah, he knew she was first in line but so what? That little speech always worked on these bleeding heart softies, besides he was in a hurry and those choice handicap parking spaces were not enough compensation for the boot life planted in his short rear. After all he was the one who had to go through life busting his ass every time he stepped off the curb.
Now here it was nearly an hour later and she's stuck in traffic. Another strange accident on the Sunnydale interstate. Looked like a truck full of laxatives, prune juice, and denture cleaner headed for the drug store had overturned. Both lanes of the highway had to be closed down when all those senior citizens flocked in. Who would have thought those electric chairs could move so fast.
Just two miles from the apartment. 'Please, God, I hope he's still asleep' Finally Willow pulled into the car park. She grabbed her bags, ran up the stairs and rushed into the room. When she peeked into the bedroom she was pleased and relieved to find he hadn't moved. Willow crept to the kitchen, made a cup of tea and relaxed down to wait.
Xander woke with surprisingly less pain than he expected. Still, he was grateful for the pills and especially to be able to sit down with his younger sister and enjoy a light breakfast and a long talk. Something they had both missed lately. Willow told him how well her business was doing now. Designing web sites was something Xander knew nothing about,
but he could still feel himself getting caught up in her pride and excitement.
She was the smartest person he knew and one of the things he loved about her was that she was smart enough to include him without making him feel stupid. "But enough about me. What's been going on in Xanderland?" Willow asked as she got up and headed to the coffee pot to pour them each a second cup.
"Well....." he started hesitantly as he stared at the back of her pretty red hair.
"Oh God Xander! You met someone. Didn't you?" Willow spun around and searched Xander's face for the facts.
Finally he couldn't hold back any longer and he told her about the daily ritual, and how much he looked forward to seeing Will each day. "I don't know, there's just something about him" he said. "In fact today I was going to ask him out. I'd have done it sooner, he just seems so shy. I really think he might have said "yes."
"Don't worry Sweety, I'll bet he'll still be there when you get back, and I know he'll say "yes". How could anyone resist this handsome face?" She pinched his cheeks for emphasis and kissed his forehead.
Xander looked at the clock and sighed. He knew that in just a few minutes Will would be walking by the site. What rotten luck that this should happen now.
Part Three
The next morning William was up and dressed early. He paced the room and looked at the clock. It was exactly five
minutes since the last time he checked. Still too early to leave for work. Although he did have the option of working almost any hours he wanted, he had to time it just right. Couldn't pass by too early or too late or he might miss seeing him.
He didn't know why he was so nervous. What did he think was going to happen today? Nothing. That's what.
Still he couldn't stop that little tickle feeling of excitement that was fluttering about in his stomach. It was a feeling he had not felt since.... Well, it had been years.
Maybe today he would speak. He would wave and say "Good day Xander. Lovely to see you." William flinched and buried his face in his hands. "Lovely?" Oh God. Could he sound any more stupid? Did Americans even say "Lovely"?
Did it sound gay?
No, it sounded pathetic.Just like he was. Just like his whole life was. Dejected, William sat back down and peered around. This was his life. This room. Cocking his head to the side thoughtfully, he wondered, what would Xander
think if he came here? William looked at the small space he called home. He saw his bed, a single. His window, always covered. His wardrobe, sparsely filled with second hand clothes, and his books.
His books filled the room.
His books filled his life.
They were what he lost himself in. They were what he lived through. And they fed his fantasies. Fantasies that until recently had been vague. Just something general to masturbate to. It wasn't that William didn't want to have real sex.
It was just probably not going to happen. He had never been with a woman, because...well ewww. And he had never been with a man because he had no idea how to go about it.
He knew he couldn't afford to have a real relationship. Not and risk someone finding out. So, would he be happy with some nameless faceless fuck? Yeah, he could live with that. He briefly considered paying for it, however that scared the pants off of him. And not in a good way. Besides if he couldn't afford a new backpack how could he afford a fuck?
Surely that would cost more. So that was how it was. William believed he was destined to be the world's oldest virgin.
But he did like to read about it. Oh my, how he liked that! So through his books he had a pretty good idea of how it would work. And now with Xander stepping into his fantasies they had taken on a whole new dimension. Just thinking of Xander and fantasies at the same time started that tickle again. Only now it was tickling a little lower. William tried to imagine how it would be if Xander were here.
He had a few romance paperbacks he liked and read over and over. Mostly because he could pretend they were about two men and not some silly bint. So he wondered. He was sure it would be like that with Xander. Just like his stories.
Xander would sweep into William's room. Gather him up into his arms and say, "William, my love, I have searched everywhere for you."
William sighed and slowly ran his hand down his chest. Down his stomach. Lower still till he pressed the heel of his palm on the hardness behind his zipper and allowed his daydreams to take flight. "Please allow me to see you my love," Xander would whisper breathlessly. At that time Xander would rip off his clothes.
No wait, he didn't have that many clothes. Xander would lovingly slide off his shirt and pants. William giggled as he removed, folded, and carefully laid his clothes on the chair. After all he didn't want to wrinkle.
"Please lie down with me my beautiful angel" Dream Xander would say. William scooted down on the bed. "May I touch your wonderful length?" Xander would ask lying down beside him. William reached into the drawer and found his small bottle of lube.
Considering his lifestyle it was one of the few luxuries he allowed himself. Lately it had become more of a necessity. He looked down and watched as the warm oil dripped onto the swollen head of his dick. He grabbed himself at the root and slowly ran his hand to the tip, pinching it lightly. He briefly wished his hand was larger. Stronger. More calloused.
William sighed, closing his eyes.
Where was he? Oh yes. "Please William, may I have relations with you?"
Williams eyes fluttered and his hand faltered. No that was not right. "Please William, May I have intercourse with you?"
No, no not yet. "Spread your legs Will. I'm gonna fuck you till you scream, and watch you come till you pass out"
Cause yeah, he had a couple of those books too. And that was the ticket.
Will threw his head back and with a loud groan felt his balls ache, fill, and erupt all over his hand. Oh Yes, as leading men went, Xander was wonderfully wank worthy!
Part Four
William's step had a little extra bounce in it this morning. He was still feeling relaxed and mellow from his earlier self
help session, and his confidence buoyed. "I really will speak to him today" Will thought. "Make a proper conversation"
He hadn't felt this good in a long time. He hiked up his backpack, reached up feeling for the condition of his unruly blond curls, and smoothed the front of his shirt. He was ready. He thought about it, rehearsed it and practiced it.
William approached the site slowly, eyes searching. Strange. Xander wasn't sitting in his usual spot. He glanced down, checkinghis watch. 11:59. Right time.
He walked slower. William looked all around. Most of the faces he recognized as the regular crew he saw there each day. Everyone seemed to be the same, but no Xander.
'I'll bet he's hiding so he doesn't have to see me,' he thought. 'And why wouldn't he? I must have sounded like a complete fool yesterday. Oh, dear. He was probably playing with me. I'll bet they are all laughing. How could I have been so stupid?'
Now deflated and horribly embarrassed, Will hung his head and started away quickly. He kept his face down hoping no one could see the shame and humiliation that he knew was causing him to blush a bright red.
"Hey you! Hold up."
William froze then reluctantly turned back. "Are you talking to me?" he asked as the other man approached. William recognized him as the man that was always cursing and yelling at Xander to get back to work. He already didn't like him.
"I'm Lindsey. I'm the boss here." Lindsey just reeked of arrogance, chest puffed out and standing in shoes designed to make him appear more than his 5'8".
"William" He answered curtly, taking a step back and wrapping his arms defensively around himself. This man had no authority over him, and William would not be intimidated. Or at least he would try not to appear so.
"Well - William. I've noticed you parading yourself by here every day. I'm not sure what you want, but I can pretty much guess." Lindsey sucked his teeth and made a show of looking William up and down slowly. "I think you ought to know that getting yourself involved with Xander Harris is a big mistake. Not that I care. Just doin' you a favor is all."
Frowning, William arched his eyebrow and looked the man up and down in a way that mirrored Lindsey's action. This was not a conversation he wanted to have, especially with a crude heathen such as this.
Still, he was intrigued as he asked "Is it now? And why would that be?"
"Because" Lindsey replied confidently "Xander is a him-hoe."
Blink....Blink. "A what?"
"A him-hoe." Lindsey snorted. Not sure if William was really that innocent or just fucking with him, he continued, spelling it out for him. "You know. A gay guy that fucks any thing and anyone he can. Just look around." Lindsey waved both arms in the direction of the work site.
William's eyes followed the gesture, not sure what he was supposed to be seeing.
"Xander has fucked half of the guys that work here. A couple of them weren't even gay till he got to them," Lindsey huffed out, obviously disgusted.
William paused thoughtfully before asking, "So what you are saying then is that Xander is very experienced and not very choosy about who he involves himself with. Am I right?"
"Exactly!" Lindsey smiled, hooked his thumbs in his belt loops and rocked back on his heels. He could tell by the shocked look on Williams face that he had hit the right cord.
"Well thank you so much for your concern" William answered, regaining his composure. "I will certainly take heed of your information." He hesitated momentarily wanting to question Lindsey further, but not trusting him or the answers he would give. Without another word Will turned and started to walk away. His brain was tumbling around his head. He was so caught up in his own musing he got almost to the end of the block before he heard the footsteps running to catch up.
"William - wait! Hi, I'm Larry, a friend of Xander's. Hey, don't listen to anything that asshole Lindsey has to say. It's his fault that Xander got hurt yesterday."
"Xander's hurt?" That got William's full attention.
"Yeah. Cracked collar bone. Lindsey didn't tell you? Said it was an accident but don't none of us believe it," Larry growled.
"Are you sure he is o.k? Is that why he's not here?" As soon as he asked the question William blushed. "Not that I noticed of course."
Larry smiled, "He's all right. Or will be with a few days rest. That's why he's home this morning."
"How did you know my name?" William asked.
"You kidding? Xander told everyone that he finally talked to you yesterday. He really likes you." William could hear the sincerity in Larry's voice and felt like he could trust him to tell the truth.
"Larry" William started slowly "Has Xander had a lot of relationships?"
"Relationships? No I wouldn't call them that. What did that prick Lindsey tell you?"
"Oh nothing really. Nothing important." Larry's avoidance of a direct answer just confirmed in William's mind that yes, Xander had been with a lot of men.
"Anyway, look man maybe I'm reading you wrong but I kinda thought you were interested in Xan. If you are here's his phone number. Just in case you want to call and see how he's doing." With that Larry winked and slipped the piece of paper into William's hand.
William took the paper, tucked it into his pocket and hurried on his way without looking at it. His brain was in overdrive. His life and contact with other people had been so limited since coming to the States that all this was simply more than he could process.
He needed time. He needed solitude. He hustled on to his refuge at work. All the rest of the day he could not get Lindsey's words out of his head.
"Xander is very experienced."
"Xander will fuck anyone."
Xander may just be the answer to his prayers. Someone to take this pesky virginity but not ask a lot of questions about a past that William was not prepared to answer. It also didn't hurt that Xander was the most beautiful man in the world.
William sighed and ran his hand down his body. Suddenly remembering he was at work, he mentally slapped his palm
with an imaginary ruler before his dick could react the way it always did to thoughts of Xander.
The only question in William's mind was how would he deal with it when Xander moved on to someone else. He thought back on some of his romance books. What did the star of the book do when the passionate affair ended?
Usually something pathetic like throw their head back with the back of their hand to their forehead. Then swoon and fall to the divan in a crumpled heap and sob. Huh.
Yeah, he could do that.
But, he decided he just wouldn't worry about all that now. He had to get into the affair before he could think about being out of it.
As soon as William got home that evening he did what he always did when he had a problem. He went directly to his books to develop a plan.
~*~*~*~*~
Late on the second day after his accident Xander found himself feeling extremely moody and irritable. His collar bone was aching and Willow's cheerfulness was grating on his last nerve. He loved her to death but for God's sake.
Xander was feeling cooped up, claustrophobic and frankly worried that he was missing his window of opportunity with William. Xander knew he had dated a lot of guys and it certainly wasn't that he didn't enjoy it. A lot. A whole lot.
But William seemed different, and Xander was at the point in his life that he wanted something more out of a relationship.
A fuck was fine, but he wanted someone to really know him. He wanted the next day. He wanted someone to talk to and cuddle with. O.k. so he wanted a boyfriend. Just thinking the word caused Xander to flinch. But it was true.
"Lunch time" Willow cheerfully called out as she brought in a tray with soup, sandwiches, and happy face cookies.
'Good God,' Xander thought as he smiled and thanked her.
William had stopped on his way home from work and picked up a sandwich and a salad. He really wasn't hungry, but in case he was later he didn't want to interrupt his research to go out. He sat on the floor in front of the part of the bookcase that held the biographies.
He had tons of them. There should be something here to work with. 'Let's see,' he thought. 'Who can I fashion myself after that will capture Xander's interest enough to get me into his bed and him into my arse?'
George Bush? - Too bigoted
The Pope? - Too straight.
Johnny Depp? - too gay.
Stephen King? - too scary.
Bob Dylan? - too 60's.
King Arthur? - too pure.
Hitler? - WTF?
Cary Grant? - Hey, now we're talking. Smooth. Could be straight. Could be gay. Confident, Definitely not a virgin.
William sat back thinking of all the movies he had seen Cary Grant in. He really liked those kind of movies because truth be told, William was a true romantic.
Part Five
He smiled. He now had a plan of attack.William stood thoughtfully. First, how would Cary Grant dress? Seductively of course. His options were limited, but he did his best with what he had. Digging through his wardrobe he found a pair of really tight black dress pants.
Next he decided on a long sleeved white shirt that he would only half button. With everything laid out carefully all he needed now was a hot shower and a good night's sleep.
William grabbed a towel and headed for his bath. The bathroom was small. Nothing more really than a converted closet.
It had a toilet, a shower stall and small corner sink. No tub, but it was all he really needed.
William tried not to miss the hot soaking bubble baths of his childhood. Temporarily allowing himself to remember, there were so many other things his heart ached for from the past that a tub was barely on the list.
Jumping in he was grateful that at least tonight the water was hot. His thoughts wandered dreamily as his soapy hands slid all over his lean body. Being a solitary type of guy had at least one benefit. William's own hands always knew exactly how to pull, pinch, and poke to get the maximum pleasure. William spread his legs wide, and dipped his head forward. He liked to watch himself. Liked to see how his cock looked when it was really hard. William scraped his thumb nail harshly down the crease between his groin and thigh. He gasped. Would Xander know to do that for him?
He imagined Xander standing behind him and he watched as dream Xander reached around, stripped his cock and rolled his sack almost painfully.
William's hand sped up. He released his balls and slid his fingers further back till he felt the soft puckered skin of his hole. "Yes, Xander. It's yours to take. Please do it now," and with that William pushed a finger roughly into himself.
Grunting, he jerked forward and came heavily against the shower wall.
After a few minutes of winding down he threw his head back and sighed. Because surprisingly, that was less satisfying than he had expected. He knew now he wouldn't be happy till he got the real thing. He wouldn't be happy till he had Xander.
~*~*~*~*~
By the next morning things around the apartment continued to be tense. Xander was still feeling out of sorts. Partly because of the pain. Partly because he was still stuck inside and in large part because his right hand was the one strapped down.
Even with Willow fussing around he had enough privacy that he could have quickly relieved his tension. It was just hard to get a smooth regular rhythm going left handed. As a twice a day guy he found the situation grossly inconvenient.
Still he thought he might give it a try. "Didn't sleep good. Going back to bed. Don't call me unless it's an emergency," he yelled.
"That's a good idea Sweety," she called back.
Willow stood wiping the kitchen counter. The breakfast dishes were done and she had picked up the mess of papers, bottles, and food containers that were strewn about the livingroom. There really wasn't anything else, and Xander's
irritability was staring to become infectious. She loved him to death, but when he was sick or hurt he could be such a baby.
Bored, Willow sat down with a second cup of tea and tried to think of something that would cheer him up. Deep in thought, she jumped straight out of her chair, startled, when the phone rang. She reached for it quickly, hoping to catch it before it woke Xander and made him even grumpier.
"Hello?" she chirped.
'Well that was unexpected,' William thought. 'Didn't picture Xander living with someone.'
"Hello?" Willow repeated.
'Wife? - no. Girlfriend? - Lindsey said "a lot of men" not women. Sounds too young to
be his Mum.'
"Is anybody there?"
Finally snapping out of his musing, William answered in his best movie voice. "ello Pet. Is Xander about?"
"Ah, he is, but he's napping. Can I take a message?"
"You most certainly can," he answered in that short choppy Cary Grant type of way.
"You call tell him William called to check on his condition" Oh God! That made it sound like I think he's pregnant. William shuddered.
"William? As in walks by the work site, William?" Willow considered calling Xander to the phone, but he did say "emergency."
"That would be me, Darlin." Well whoever this was, she knew about him. That meant Xander had talked about him. What did he say? Should he ask? William clutched the phone firmly telling himself 'Please don't giggle. For God's sake don't giggle'.
"Hey, I've got a great idea. Why not come over and see Xander yourself. I just know it would cheer him up." Willow was thrilled. This would snap old grouch pants out of his mood.
"Oh..Ah..Yes. Of course." The blood in William' veins froze. 'Well this is what I wanted isn't it?' He tried his best to keep his voice working as Willow gave him the address and sat in stunned silence still holding the phone long minutes after she had hung up.
~*~*~*~*~
William stood across the street staring at the nondescript brick building. Three floors. Four apartments each floor. Twelve apartments. William did the math. 'One of these is Xander's, he thought. 'He's in there right now.'
Hard as he tried though, William could not make his feet move to cross the street. He stood, frozen, in pants so tight he could hardly breath. Luckily he was so scared that his balls were trying to crawl back up into his body, so at least that part of him was not pinching.
"Bloody hell!' he scolded himself. 'Stop being such a coward and go in there. After all, I've got a proper invite from whoever the hell she is.' Taking a deep breath, William forced his right foot to take a step. Then his left. Then right again. Before he had time to think, he was standing in the building's lobby. The phone voice had told him it was number #104. Easy to find. Yep, there it is. Right there.
William tried to run over everything in his head that he had practiced at home this morning. The voice, a walk, he even had tried out several poses in front of a mirror to see which one looked most like a movie star. He was as ready as he would ever be. With all that in mind William turned around and searched for the nearest exit.
"Hey, I thought I heard someone out here. You must be William." Willow had opened the door so quickly he was too startled to deny it.
She looked him up and down. Yeah, there was the blond hair and those were the beautiful blue eyes Xander had described, but the rest was not what she'd expected. Frankly he looked a little like the rent boys that walked around down on Walnut street. 'What the hell,' she thought. 'If this is what Xan wants, it's all good with me'
William, too was a little hesitant. This woman still hadn't said who she was and what she was doing living with his Xander. She did seem friendly enough though, so composing himself William recalled his plan and threw himself into character.
"Well, well, well my pet. Aren't you looking delicious today," he drawled.
Willow's eyebrows shot up then back down as she quickly tried to cover her shock. "Oh, ah, thanks. Please come in. Xander's not up yet but I know he'll be thrilled to see you." Willow stepped to the side and watched him walk in. She was surprised this new guy appealed to Xan. Sure he was cute, but frankly his personality seemed to border on sleazy.
Though each of them clearly had separate agendas their goal was the same so William went willingly when Willow grabbed his hand and headed for the bedroom. He was slightly stunned when she opened the door without knocking and stuck her head in.
"Xan. Xander, Sweety, wake up. I've got a surprise for you." With that brief announcement Willow shoved William into the room and shut the door.
'Holy Shit!' William was horrified. There he stood just three feet away from the half awake, obviously naked
(judging by the tent on the oh so thin sheet) object of his fantasies.
Struggling now to wake up and comprehend the situation Xander found himself totally confused. Was he dreaming?
Was this really William standing in his bedroom? If so, why the fuck was he dressed like a Chippendale? Hard as he tried, Xander could not get the fog in his brain to lift. He generally felt like someone had just dropped him off on the corner of Okedok and WooWoo to wait for a bus that left ten minutes ago. "William?" he croaked. Oh good. At least his mouth was starting to function. A point Xander was infinitely grateful for.
William took a deep breath. This was it. His goal was in sight. He tried to recall everything he had practiced.
'Here we go,' he thought. "Xander, love. Heard you were hurt. Been busy, but your little redhead begged me to pop in to see you." 'What am I forgetting?' William fretted, 'Oh yes. The pose.' Casually William leaned against the door frame. One foot on the floor one foot against the wall.
He then stuck both hands in his front pants pockets. No easy task considering his pants felt like they had been painted on.
"Willow? My sister called you? How did she know who you were? Where did she get your number? What's going on William?'
'Sister! Of course'. That fact boosted William's confidence a bit so he decided to move in a little closer. Pushing off the wall with his foot he took two steps toward the bed.
And that's when it all went to hell.
While being so totally focused on a wonderfully naked Xander, William failed to notice Xander's work boots lying in the middle of the floor. Stepping forward, his left foot caught on the boot and William lost his balance. He stumbled, tripped and tipped toward his target. Unfortunately his pants were so tight he was unable to get his hands out of his pockets in time to catch himself. With no way to break his fall, William fell face first on the bed.
To be more specific he was face first in Xander's lap. Making matters worse was the fact that all that struggling to free his hands was causing much activity around Xander's quickly stiffening and very interested dick.
Xander's brain may have been slow to wake, but his cock was now very alert. Xander was speechless. Propping himself up on his left elbow he watched in horror as William rolled around wildly in Xander's crotch trying to regain some sort of balance..
The last thing William remembered before passing out was the feeling of Xander's cock as it twitched and smacked him in the nose. William fell to the floor.
All of the commotion had carried out to the living room, and Willow rushed in to see what the hell was going on.
"Jesus Christ Xander! What did you do?"
"Nothing! I swear! Nothing."
William could hear the voices but they seemed to be far off and it was taking a while for it all to come back into focus.
Slowly he realized he was still in Xander's bedroom and apparently lying on Xander's bed. How soft it was. Also, there was something damp and cool on his forehead.
"William?'
'Oh, that was Willow's voice.' He remembered Willow. Willow was nice. Willow was Xander's sister right?
And when he remembered that, everything else came back in a rush.
William's blue eyes flew open and collided with two deep brown ones that were filled with questions and concern. "Take it easy, Will. Xander reached down and removed the cool cloth from William's head, then brushed a damp curl back off his face. It was a touch that felt so intimate to William that he blushed deeply.
"Now then," Xander continued, "I'm really glad you came over to see me, but do you want to tell me what all this is about?" Xander waved his hand up and down in the direction of William's clothes. Looking out of the corner of his eye, Xander could see Willow give him the thumbs up and slip out the door.
Feeling as though he was about as humiliated as he could get William decided to try out a little truth. "I just wanted you to like me," he said quietly.
Xander bent down and captured William's lips in a soft kiss. "I like you just fine," he whispered.
Then, before he could pull back, William cupped his hand behind Xander's head to hold him in place, and kissed him for all he was worth. Because despite being as embarrassed as he had ever been, William had come too far to chicken out now. As the kiss continued and became heated, Xander licked along the closed seam of William's mouth. He was stunned by the power of the feeling running through him.
William gasped and Xander thrust his tongue into the warm, wet heaven of William's mouth. Both men were hard and desperate, but Xander had a feeling that William was a little too innocent for how quickly things were progressing, and he didn't want to rush into something he wasn't ready for. "Will, how old are you?" he ask gently. Xander assumed Will was one of those men who, because he was uncomfortable with being gay or possibly late coming out, had not been with a man before. This had to be handled carefully.
Being somebody's first was a big responsibility. A great big delicious, yummy responsibility. One Xander was more than ready to tackle. But, it had to be done just right, and Will was more than worth the wait.
William was clearly confused by the sudden turn in conversation. "I'm twenty why?" he asked, still trying to pull Xander's head back down for more smooches.
"Wait a minute, baby" Xander said easing Will's hand back down. "I just think we need to slow down a bit." Seeing the look of rejection on William's face, Xander hurried to add "You're worth a whole lot more than just a quick fuck, Will,
and I'd like it if we took some time to get to know each other first. Doesn't mean we can't do some kissing and cuddling, but I'm just not ready to do a lot more than that."
"Oh, well of course" William sat up. "We can most certainly wait till you are more comfortable."
Xander smiled at the relief on Will's face. "Now, Will, if you go wait in the living room while I get dressed, I think Willow will make us some breakfast and maybe you would like to stay and keep me company for a while this morning?"
Jumping up and rushing toward the bedroom door, William was beaming. "Yes, Xander, I believe I would like that very much." William was thrilled. It seemed he was about to have his very first date. A breakfast date.
How very continental.
